Passion for Responsible Agriculture
The Koepon Vision of Organic Dairy Farming
Does organic really meet the needs of a growing world population? We believe it does – and it is more important than ever to maintain a balance between people, animals, and nature. Through our organic dairy farming in Mecklenburg, we have been committed for many years to doing our part, supporting both our region and communities beyond.
Dairy farming for the well-being of humans and nature
With passion and joy, we practice organic farming that rethinks sustainability, aiming not only to maintain the status quo, but to continually improve it. Our goal is to unite organic and sustainable dairy farming, creating circular systems in agriculture that ultimately benefit us all.
At the center of our efforts is the well-being of our Jersey cows, which produce the high-quality Koepon milk. We grow our own feed on over 4,000 hectares, reducing transportation distances. We focus on improving soils, implementing comprehensive forest management, utilizing our business as a CO2 sink, and developing a strong rainwater management system.
We count on innovation
To ensure that all areas work in harmony, we are always open to new ideas. We are curious, eager to learn and embrace innovation – a mindset we happily share with fellow farmers.
In everything we do, economic viability plays a key role. Sustainable dairy farming can only persist if it is also financially sound. That is why we place great importance on the long-term sustainability of all forward-looking ideas. Speaking of the future - it has long been part of our journey, reflected in our digital connectivity and the use of high-performance technology and robotics.
The sense of community
As a family-run business, we cherish upholding timeless traditions. We value togetherness and understand the importance of community. Our employees are at the heart of everything we do. Together, we create balance and advocate for quality and sustainability - guided by courage, transparency, passion, and pride.
Our Compass: The 4-Returns Model
Our cows are called Jersey
Declaration of love to milk
Since 2018, Jersey cows have made their home on our pastures. Their distinctive feature is their excellent milk quality, characterzied by the pure A2 genotype in the milk‘s protein. The result is milk that is rich in vitamins, protein, and natural fat. Jersey cows also require about 30% less feed than the widespread Holstein-Friesians breed, making them a more environmentally friendly choice. Over the years, our Jerseys have become especially close to our hearts. So much so that we are now proud to have the majority of organic Jersey cows in norhtern Germany.
So small and yet so significant
The Jersey dairy cow has its origins in the 18th century on the British Channel Island of Jersey. Via Denmark, it made its way to German pastures in the 1950s, where these small cattle became an extremely popular breed. They are known for their longevity, fertility, adaptability, and calm temperament, making them easy to manage. One of their most distinctive features is their high feed efficiency. Almost all nutrients flow into their milk, which makes it excellent for cheese production thanks to its high levels of fat and protein, as well as carotene and calcium.

Our Feed Cultivation
The feed for our cows comes directly from our fields in and around Brüel, Kaarz, and Langen Brütz. Across more than 4,000 hectares, our own organic crop and feed production ensures excellent feed quality, which is essential for the performance of our cows as well as the quality of their milk. At the same time, short transport distances significantly reduce our environmental impact.
